Star Trek or Lord of the Rings: which is better or more worthwhile?

I have watched Star Trek and I have read the Lord of the Rings series, and I can't decide which is better! I am a fan of both, both are mentally intriguing (although one is a TV series and the other is a book series), and both are famous to the extreme! Well, they're both not as famous as Star Wars, of course...

Here is a background on both of them:

Star Trek is a collection of long running TV shows and movies in a fictional universe created by
Gene Roddenberry. It's about starships and space stations in the 23 and 24 centuries, respectively.
At the time, humans are a major race in the nearest quadrant of our galaxy alongside Klingons, Romulans, Vulcans, and Cardassians. There are many smaller races that worth mentioning, such as the Ferengi and the Betazoids, but those are the major ones. Later on there are wars with powers within and without the home quadrant, with the introduction of the infamous "Borg",  a organic race with many electronic implants. I personally think Borg is short for Cyborg. Borg often say:
"We are Borg. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated."

The series I am watching is Star Trek: The Next Generation. Here is a photo of the main characters:
